John Bachelor (11189 bytes)John Bachelor is described by his clients as "professional, warm and relaxed."  He has been clinically trained and likes keeping his clinical skills current.  But in most of his work John sees himself more as a coach or consultant than a clinician who is treating illness.  He prefers a friendly, caring professional relationship over impersonal clinical distance.

John has been counseling with individuals, families and business people for over 20 years.  After completing a B.A. in psychology, he went on to earn a Masters Degree in theological studies with an emphasis in counseling, and a second Masters in Clinical Psychology.  He completed graduate studies for specialties in marriage and family as well as mental health, and is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor.  In addition to individual and marriage counseling, John has led groups and seminars, taught many classes, and spoken at conferences and on radio.   Beginning as a staff counselor, he went on to serve for six years as Director of Counseling for a busy metropolitan counseling center, after which he launched his own private practice.  John has also been active in providing counselor training and supervision, as well as consulting with other organizations.

Having had previous experience in the small business sector, where he was a partner in a medical electronics firm and later owned his own company, part of John's work has involved consulting with business people, especially about relational issues. He has found that, while some of the factors involved in business are unique to that field, many others are very similar to issues found in families. He has also worked with thousands of couples and individuals regarding relationship, emotional and life direction issues.

More recently, building on the development in the 1990's of the coaching profession (sometimes called "life coaching"), John and his wife, Suzanne, have pursued additional training through two different coach training institutions, both of which are accredited by the International Coach Federation. One of those institutions  - Erickson College in Vancouver, BC - recently launched their U.S. program at John and Suzanne's StreamTree facility.

On a personal note, John and Suzanne met in high school, married shortly after their college graduation, and raised two sons. He enjoys music (he has directed a small orchestra), bicycling (his family has bicycled Seattle to Portland several times), and other outdoor activities. Along with his commitment to his church and family over the years, John loves his work.
